In today's depressed economy, millions of Americans are devastated with failing businesses and money troubles. With many trapped in our enduring financial struggles, it's pure logic to search for answers and an ultimate solution.
The Lure of the Sex Industry
The solution for some is the thriving sex industry, in a lucrative though taboo business of intimate pleasures. The industry's customers continue to spend insane amounts on sexual services, exchanging money for their satisfaction. Though some are downright disgusted with the business's concept, deeming it obscene and immoral. Others are quite enticed by the temptation, the mysterious nature of money, sex and glamor.
Gloria is an example of a young woman who escorts in hopes of financial independence. I recently sat down with the college freshman for her insight, an open interview with a sex worker. At this time, Gloria was a fresh faced escort, about a month into her new job.
An Interview with an Escort
Question: What are your personal views on the sex industry?
Gloria: It's like any other profession. The workers are paid for their services, as with any other profession. People will always want sex, and many will pay for their desires. It's simple, the industry will always do well. It's just business.
Question: What does escorting entail?
Gloria: Clients pay me hourly for “companionship”. I provide the “GFE”, something called the girlfriend experience. I'm basically the client's girlfriend for the session. Prior to the appointment, the agency screens them for basic information. Then upon arrival, I check for identification and the client pays discreetly. All money earned is called a “donation”.
Question: Why did you decide to get into escorting?
Gloria: I was a broke student who needed quick money. I began to notice the power of my body, and I went with it.
Question: What do you like about the job?
Gloria: One thing only, the money.
Question: About how much do you make per session?
Gloria: My rate is $400 an hour. The agency takes about fifty percent of my pay. So it depends on the length of the session. Sometimes one hour, other times will be four or more.
Question: Do you plan to continue escorting?
Gloria: I might for a little longer. I honestly don't know.
Question: Why would you stop?
Gloria: It's a lot of emotional stress sometimes. Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it.
Question: Have you ever had any negative experiences on the job?
Gloria: Of course, guys can be creeps. Sometimes it's scary. They can become aggressive, escorting is actually a tough job.
Question: How do you deal with aggressive customers?
Gloria: I just walk out, call the agency and let them know. Nothing's ever gotten too out of hand though. Clients get rough sometimes, so I leave immediately. It can be incredibly stressing.
Question: What's your worst fear in the business?
Gloria: Getting hurt. It's not exactly “easy” money, and I don't always feel safe. My own well being is big price to pay.
Question: What precautions do you take to stay safe?
Gloria: I check for identification, and make sure the information is correct. The agency screens the men prior to the appointment. I also have to check in with the agency during and after the session.
